Laundry hamper

The handling of laundry in households and other places typically involves storing dirty laundry items in a hamper. Laundry or clothes hampers are intended to provide convenient storage of soiled laundry prior to washing. Such hampers may be fabricated from wood, plastic, cloth, or woven wicker products (or combinations thereof), and are ordinarily placed in the bedroom or bathroom of a home so that laundry can be neatly collected without unsightly clutter. Such hampers are typically available in a wide variety of colors and styles, and thus can be coordinated with furniture and the like for enhancing decor. One of the unsightly realities of even the most privileged life is dirty laundry. Every day each of us generates a great deal of dirty laundry which, of necessity, accumulates day by day, sock by sock, and sheet by sheet until the end of the week, when most of us catch up with our accumulations and get them washed, in our own homes, if we are fortunate enough to have a washing machine and dryer, or at the local laundromat. Laundry is accumulated in hampers, or laundry bags. A wide variety of hampers is available currently for general as well as for specific uses. In the gathering of items, such as soiled laundry, hampers serve the purpose of providing a convenient collection device. A hamper contains a storage chamber where the dirty and soiled articles of clothing are stored for laundering at a later date, which storage chamber typically is made of hard, non-flexible material, and closed off at the top by a pivotal lid, which allows selective access to the storage chamber, while preventing an unsightly appearance caused by the dirty clothing, as well as preventing the spreading of malodorous smells. Hampers usually take the form of a rigid receptacle, often of rectangular configuration and having a hinged cover, which allows the cover to be opened to receive dirty laundry. After receiving the dirty laundry, the cover can be closed and thus presents a pleasant appearance.
