Loft bed

Various styles of beds and bed frame assemblies are known. One such type of bed assembly is a bunk bed in which two beds are arranged such that one is above the other. Stacking or bunking of the beds is commonly done to conserve floor space in a room. Conservation of space is commonly needed in a child's bedroom or in a dormitory room in which the beds often take up most of the space in the room. In institutions, such as university dormitories, there is often a need to accommodate the living requirements of two occupants in a very small space. In many living environments beds take up an inordinate amount of space. Students in dormitory rooms often use "lofts" or "loft beds" constructed of lumber, in order to take better advantage of the vertical space in the room. To utilize available space efficiently, a pair of bunk beds has often been provided wherein the bunk beds are constructed of a small number of simple wood components. Typically, the sleeping platform is put high enough that a desk and desk chair and/or another piece of furniture can be put under it and used. A loft bed has only the top bunk which create an open space underneath that can be occupied by a chest, drawers, or even a work area.
