Trundle bed
Mechanically deployable beds have been in existence for many years for temporary sleeping accommodations and for regular use in limited space. In many habitats, floor space is at a premium, and a bed that takes up space when not in use is an unneeded luxury. In many cases such beds take the form of convertible sofas or chairs which have a mattress folded therein or in which the cushions can be folded out to form a mattress. Other types of folding beds include well known rollaway beds which can be folded up and rolled to a place of storage and Murphy-type beds which fold into closet-like enclosures. Various sleeping systems have been developed to maximize floor space or to convert sleeping areas to living areas. For example, trundle beds convert a single bed to two single beds or a double bed, and can be stowed when not in use, increasing floor space. Futons and convertible sofa beds are opened up a night to provide a bed and are closed during the day to provide sifting areas. Still other types of beds combine various types of furniture with a bed. For example, one known unit includes a chest of drawers, a mirror, a couch, and a trundle bed-type slidable mattress frame. Convertible furniture is well known. Well known beds that convert from one form to another include trundle beds, sofa beds, and day beds. There are also a number of infant's cribs in the prior art that convert from a conventional crib to another configuration, with some modification. It is also known in the prior art to configure an infant's play pen with some suitable conversion means, that would provide an appropriate sleeping location for the infant.
