Cutting board

In food preparation, it is common to perform slicing, dicing and other cutting operations on food products. Preparation of food items often requires a preparation step in which a food item is cut using a knife or other sharpened kitchen tool. The preparation step may involve cutting a serving portion from a larger portion of a food item, such as a slice of cooked meat product. Typically, these operations are performed on a cutting board placed upon a countertop surface. Cutting boards are well known accessories in kitchens and industrial settings to provide users with a cutting surface for cutting items without causing damage to underlying surfaces or knives. Cutting boards are primarily designed to provide a cutting surface on which to cut food and other materials while protecting a countertop. A cutting board is generally utilized to avoid marring or otherwise altering the finish and aesthetic appearance of the countertop. Cutting boards are constructed of diverse materials in various sizes and shapes. Cutting boards available on the marketplace ar made from various materials, including wood, plastic, marble and the like. Regardless of the particular material utilized, a cutting board almost invariably takes the form of a plate-like member having opposing, substantially planar opposing surfaces. Butcher block tables are used in kitchens for rolling out dough or for cutting different foods, or for other work needs around the kitchen. Over the years these work islands or peninsulas have evolved to where sinks and range tops are now placed in the tops.
