Settee
In general, sofas today are built as a type of couch, which is to say, they incorporate a basic body that accommodates a mattress, in which case there are neither backrests nor armrests incorporated therein. Various types of constructions have been known for making settee. These constructions generally form a rigid assembly capable of being shipped from a manufacturing plant to a retail outlet and, subsequently, to a customer. Settees in many cases have been constructed to be of a cushion type. Mattresses for use on settees comprise a flat spring unit including a plurality of compression coil springs arranged side by side. A cushion made of foamed synthetic resin material such as polyurethane and urethane foams is arranged on at least one of upper and lower sides of the spring unit with a protection layer interposed between them. The protection layer serves to keep the hard metallic spring unit from touching the soft cushion so as to protect the cushion from being broken. These components are covered by an outer covering.
