Office furniture
A variety of office furniture systems have been developed by various companies. These modular office furniture systems can be used to construct office desks and workstations having a variety of configurations and layouts. Modular office systems have become increasingly popular for their ease of installation and relatively low cost in association with the flexibility such systems provide. Office cubicles, desks and partitions can be easily rearranged or disassembled as personnel requirements change. In recent years, with the development of the electronic office and the more extensive and wide spread use of computers, particularly personal computers, modular office furniture systems that take into account the need to support and hold electronic and computer equipment have been developed. Telecommunications include voice, data, and video transmission of information, fire and security matters, audio, environmental, and other intelligent building controls over media that typically includes fiber optics, specialized copper data cabling, as well as microwave and radio wave transmissions. Office furniture design practices have introduced flexible layouts designed to support workgroups and small teams. Modern office furniture often incorporates multiple work surfaces, some of which are intended for use only by a primary user and other of which are intended for conferencing or group meetings. Open office plans are well known in the art, and generally comprise large, open floor spaces that are divided off into individual offices or workstations. Several different furniture arrangements are presently available to divide up open office space, including partition panels, systems furniture, and modular furniture. Office furniture equipped with, or electrically connected to a personal computer, and an associated monitor or other computer output display device, have become popular with the advent of automation to the professional and business world in general. Metal office furniture is one of the backbones of the office environment. Exemplary pieces include file cabinets, desks, and drawer pedestals. Metal office furniture is fabricated of steel and then painted, making it both functional and durable. Various office furniture devices, including for example, chairs and worksurface members, are typically configured with moveable support members. For example, office chairs generally can be configured with moveable support arms, support columns, backrests and seats. Likewise, worksurface members or assemblies often are configured with moveable support legs and the like. In a typical office arrangement, the display screen of the computer is placed on an ordinary secretarial-type desk for observation by the user in a sitting position. Filing cabinets, of the type that are commonly found in offices, businesses and homes, for filing documents, papers and the like are generally of the vertical and lateral type. Computer work station furniture is designed to accommodate and provide positioning flexibility for desk top computers and wiring for the computers. A wide variety of desks have been developed for different purposes over the years. Today, specialized desks well adapted for use with computer equipment are in great demand.
