Office chairmat
Desk chairmats for office and home use are well known. Chairmats provide both safety and convenience for personnel in rolling or steno chairs which are generally used to more effectively navigate workspaces. On hard flooring such as cement the chairmat keep chairs from rolling too quickly and out of control, and also prevent unpleasant noise. One well known problem in office environments is the risk of shock to office workers due to triboelectricity. This is especially prevalent in offices with large electronic machinery and the like. It is known to provide floor mats and chairmats having a grounding connection to allow charge dissipation. On soft flooring chairmat allow the worker to move more easily where otherwise the chair wheels get stuck or stalled in carpeting, impeding free motion. The chairmat also prevent chair wheels from catching on carpets, power cords, files, etc. As such, the mats reduce wear and tear on carpeting or other flooring. Such chairmats typically consist of a plastic material in which a matrix of carbon particles or other material is dispersed resulting in a semiconductive composite. This prior art design suffers the disadvantages of an unattractive appearance and a limited discharge rate through a single ground connection. Desk chairmats typically include a substantially planar member of generally square, rectangular or other shape, with or without a lip extension portion adapted to be located in the well area of a desk. Typical chairmats for use on carpeted floors also include a plurality of spikes or cleats projecting from the lower surface of the chairmat that anchor the chairmat and prevent drifting. Desk chairmats which are to be applied over carpeting typically have short but relatively sharp spikes on the undersides thereof which hold the mats firmly in place. In addition, many of these chairmats have anti-slip mechanisms for the particular environment of their intended use. They may include "spikes" that adhere to carpeting or an alternate type of material if the mat is to placed on another type of surface like concrete, wood, vinyl, etc.
