Drafting table

One of the most important requirements for the production of accurate mechanical drawings is a work surface upon which the actual drawing may be performed. The drafting job to be performed determines the size of the drafting board needed; as a result, facilities where draftsmen work are commonly provided with a plurality of drafting tables of differing sizes. Generally, the drafting tables may be classified into two categories, i.e., the suspension arm type and the rail type. The former type has been out of date, and the rail type is the only popular one at the present time. A draftsman or a designing person before making a drawing has to refer to a lot of reference materials, such as a blue print, a design reference or reference tables, etc. Drafting tables are generally disassemblable for moving and frequently are received in disassembled condition. Other drafting tables are not easily disassembled and once assembled are stored and moved in their fully assembled form. A drafting table typically comprises a drafting board supported at an angle above a four-legged table or desk which has its own top in addition to the drafting board. Drawers for storing drafting supplies are either supported beneath the top of the four-legged table or are included in a separate piece of furniture. Drafting tables are usually adjustable in height and can be swiveled to vary the angle or pitch of the table. In addition, it is known to provide parallel slides above the drafting surface of such tables. Such parallel slides generally ride along a wire secured around the drafting table so as to move up and down therewith for aiding the draftsman in drawing straight and parallel lines.
