Lounge chair
A standard lounge chair includes a long couch whose length exceeds the average height of an adult so that its occupants may recline on the couch. There are a wide variety of lounge type chairs, especially those used for outdoor recreation, e.g. at the beach, poolside, picnics, etc., which are designed to allow the user to recline on his or her stomach. Many lounge chairs include a bed which is contoured to more or less conform to the natural contours of a reclining occupant. Lounge chairs, also referred to as beach chairs, patio chairs, leisure chairs or lawn chairs, may be foldable. A lounge chair consists of a seat and leg support portion fixedly secured to a back support portion which maintains the upper torso of a person's body in a generally upright position. Alternatively, the seat and leg support portion may be adjustably secured to the back support portion allowing the back support portion to be locked into a variety of positions which maintain the upper torso of a person's body in a more or less upright position depending on the desires of the chair's occupant. Lounge chairs have a short or lateral dimension with the back portion being adjustable up and down about an axis which is transverse to the longitudinal dimension. Lounge chairs for supporting a person in either a prone or seated position and which have body support sections joined in a hinged manner to allow adjustment of the relative angle of adjacent support sections are known, and typically consist of a generally horizontal frame supported above a surface by legs, where a fabric or mesh material, in solid sheets or multiple strips, is stretched across the frame. Typically, fabricated lounge chairs of the type to which this invention relates are comprised of tubular frame and support members and an adjustable back support pivotally mounted to the frame members so that the back support can be moved from an upright position to a substantially horizontal position. In addition to lounge chairs, other types of "patio" chairs are commonly utilized at poolside, on outdoor patios, at the beach and elsewhere. Lounge chairs of the type intended for patios and around swimming pools are usually constructed to be adjustable in that the back can be raised and lowered to change the angle between the seating area and the back. Lounge chairs have a long dimension on which a person may sit and on which a person can lay stretched out in the prone position when the back is lowered into essentially the same plane as the seat.
