Outdoor bench
Outdoor benches have traditionally provided persons with a place to sit and relax outside in the yard, on the porch, or near the pool. Many homeowners purchase lawn benches made of natural woods and finish them with a weather protecting varnish to ensure the longevity of the wood against the elements of nature. Benches intended for outdoor use typically comprise two spaced frames supporting between them a seating section formed of a plurality of horizontally-extending wood or metal slats, or an integral seating section formed of welded steel, perforated metal wire mesh, or plastic. Typically, the frames are fabricated of cast concrete, cast iron, or welded steel. Park benches and other outdoor benches used in places of public accommodation must be of substantially greater strength and durability than is required or normal outdoor type yard furniture. Moreover, achievement of the required strength and durability must be balanced against the cost factor in order to provide a commercially feasible construction. Outdoor benches such as those commonly found at bus stops and sidewalks are often used for advertising purposes. Commonly, the bench back includes a billboard type advertisement disposed thereon such that a passersby will be able to read the advertisement. Picnic tables with attached benches found in public parks frequently are built using an A-frame support structure that requires users to step over the bench seat to sit at the table.
